東京から盛岡に向かう東北新幹線「はやて」には、物騒な裏稼業の者たちが何人も乗り合わせていた。
狡猾な中学生・王子と、幼い息子に重傷を負わせた王子に復讐をしようとする、元殺し屋の木村。
ある大物の息子を救出し、トランクとともに護送する蜜柑と檸檬。
彼らのトランクを奪う依頼を受けた、ツキのない殺し屋・七尾。
疾走する密室の中でトランクを奪い合い、逃げる者あり、追う者あり。
サスペンスフルなのにどこかとぼけたオフビートな会話が楽しい。
勧善懲悪でありながら少しもやもやした謎を残し、それでいて読後感すっきりという絶妙なバランスが素晴らしい。
「グラスホッパー」の続編のようだけど、前作の内容を忘れてしまったので、そういう面白さを逃したかもしれないと思うと悔しい。
